Vashishtha Narayan Singh was born on 2 April 1946 at Basantpur, village, in Bhojpur, Bihar. Her father was Lal Bahadur sjngh and mother Lahaso devi. He was very intelligent student. About pass higher secondary he was admitted to Patna science college.
During his classes, he used to ask so many questions to teachers who would invariably become irritated. The Principal of Patna science college, NS Vashishtha Narayan that he met then Patna university vice -chancellor George Jacob and required him to let the boy appears for the BSC final years honours examinations even before clearing the part l examination. And, even the examination, he topped.
When Vashishtha Narayan was a student an international Conference was held here in which John L Kelley form California University had also come. He very impressed to Vashishtha and invited to California university for research. Vashishtha Narayan went to the California and completed his PHD 1969.
Vashishtha was married then he returned but the marriage did not last long and he was divorced soon. He was soon diagnosed with schizophrenia. He was admitted to the central Institute of psychiatry in Ranchi. He Went missing during a train journey and was found years Last.
Vashishtha taught mathematics at various Institute in the 1969and 1970.He was worked IIT kanpur institute, Tata Institute of fundamental research Mumbai and indian statistical Institute, kolkata . He was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of india, posthumously in 2020.
