Razia sultan was a ruler of the Delhi, Sultanate. She was the first and last female ruler of the India . Her official name of Jalalt-ud-Din Razia adopted a gender-neutral attire instead, more like the male rulers before Razia.
She was born to Iltutamish and qutub begum in 1205,trained in professional warfare and was taught army skills, along with her siblings. History deems Razia one of the very few female ruler in the history of Islamic civilizations across the world. Her ancestral roots trace back to Turkish Seljuk slaves! As one of the leading rulers of the slave Dynasty, her reign challenged the very foundation of societal class and shook power structures.
Razia's ascension was challenged by a section of nobles, some of whom ultimately joined her, while the others were defeated. The Turkic nobles who supported her expected her to be a figurehead, but she increasingly asserted her power. This combined with her appointments of non-Turkic officers to important posts. Led to their resentment against her. She was deported by a group of nobles in April 1240,after having ruled for less than 4 years. She married one of the rebels-Ikhtiyaruddin Altunia . But defeated by her half brother and successor Muizuddin Bahram in October that years and was killed shortly after.
