Rani Lakshmibai(19 November 1828- 18 June 1858)
Rain Lakshmibai was one of the first woman freedom fighter of India. She revolted against the East India Company in 1857.
Lakshmibai was born on 19 November 1828 near Varanasi. Her father Moropant Tamba who worked for for the Peshwa Baji Rao ll. She was the full named Manikarnika and Nick name Manu. She was trained in horse riding and sword fight.
Rani lakshmibai was married to Raja Gangadhar Rao in 1842.Raja Gangadhar Rao was king of jhansi but he died a few years later and she took over as of the Rani of Jhansi, much to the annoyance of the East India Company, who wanted to annex the princely state by imposing the "Doctrine of Lapse".
Lakshmibai only child had died, and her husband's health was starting to deteriorate. The couple decided to adopt a boy to groom as successor to the throne and hoped that the East India Company would recognize his authority despite the declaration.
Lakshmibai tried to regain control of jhansi through negotiations but when her efforts failed, she joined the Indian Rebellion of 1857,an uprising of soldiers, landowners, townspeople and other against the East India Company in wath is now knows as India's first battle for independence.
Rani, went on to train and lead her own army composed of both men and women, only to perish on the battle field in June 1857.Rani along with her soldiers didn't concede defeat even after being out numbered. She continued the battle and fought valiantly till her last breath. Rani of died in an encounter with the East India Company near Gwalior in 1858
