Kunwar Singh (13 November 1777 - 26 April 1858)
Kunwar Singh was a freedom fighter of India Rebbion of 1857.He belonged to Maharaj zamindar family of the Jagadishpur of Bhojpur district, Bihar, India. He was the leader of fight against the East India Company in Bihar.
East India company discontent with the rule of the boiled over in the 19 century with a mutiny of soldiers of the company's army in the garrison town of Meerut,
Northeast of delhi. At the age of 80,he led a selet band of armed soldiers against the troops under the command of the East India Company. He was the chief organiser of the fight against the British in Bihar. Then he popularly known as Veer Kunwar Singh.
Kunwar Singh an expert in the art of guerrilla warfare. This tactics left the East India Company.
Kunwar Singh assumed command of the soldiers who had revolted at Danapur on 25 July. Two days later he occupied Arrah, the district. Majar Vincent Eyre relieved the town on 3 August defeated Singh's force and destroyed jagadishpur.
During the rebellion, his army had to cross the Ganga river. British Army began to shoot at their boat, one of the bullet shattered Singh's left wrist. He was additional risk of infection due to the bullet shot, He cut off his left hand near the elbow and offered it to the Ganga.
Kunwar Singh left his ancestral village and reached Lucknow in December 1857.In March 1858 he occupied Azamgarh. However he had to leave the place soon he reterated towards his home in Arrha, Bihar.
