Banda singh Bahadur was the one of the greatest Sikh warriors . as well as one of the most hallowed martyrs of the khalsa army. At age 15th he left home to become a Hindu ascetic, and was given the name "Lachman Das".
Banda singh was born in a Rajput family at the Rajouri in the Kashmir. Wrestling, horseback riding and hunting were his major hobbies.
Guru Gobind singh, who had come to the Deccan along with the Mughal emperor, Bahadur shah, happened to go to Lachman das, hut while hunting. Then Guru ji mat Lachman das the Guru asked him "Who are you? "
Lachman das said with great humility "I am your banda (slave).
The Guru ji inquired, if he knew who he was talking to. Banda said he was none other Guru ji. He appointed him at military lieutenant and invested him with full political and military authority.
Banda singh was the Guru's nominee and deputy and to organize them in order to lead an expedition against sirhind.
Banda singh set out in 1709 to attack the Mughal, conquering large tracks of territory. His pillaging and massacring in the Deccan led the Mughal rulers finally to move against him in force.
After an eight months siege, the fortress town of Gurudas Nangal fell to Mughal in 1715.Banda singh and his men were taken as prisoners to delhi, where every day for six months a few of hisb men were taken out and executed. When his own turn came, Banda singh stated of the Muslim judge that fate befell him justly because he had failed his beloved Guru govind singh. He was tortured to death with red hot irons.
